There are tons of voices vying for our attention today. Let’s decide now to be like the Bereans in the book of Acts. When Paul taught from the Scriptures and gave the message of Christ in their city, the Bible says the Bereans “received the message with eagerness and examined the Scriptures every day to see if what Paul said was true.” (Acts 17:11) They checked out what Paul was teaching to see if it matched the scriptures. They were smart, discerning men and women!
Sometimes Christians can be so gullible. They believe every new teaching or doctrine or idea that comes down the pike. Do not just take what your favorite preacher or speaker or author or blogger says at face value. Make sure it lines up with the Scriptures. I learned many years ago that man is fallible, but God’s Word never fails.
There were well known preachers that I looked up to when I was a young man who later began to teach heresy. What they were teaching no longer lined up with the Word of God. The Word of God is the plumb line that will never fail us. His Word is truth and this truth will set us free.
