Conviction is entirely different from condemnation. God’s voice of conviction over sin always gives us a way out. It is lifechanging. The enemy’s voice will bring condemnation with no way out, and no hope. For example, Satan may say to you, “You never pray enough” or “If you would read your Bible more, God would love you more.” Condemnation is shame-based and accuses us in our character. Conviction from God arouses hope. It moves us beyond failure and causes us to want to know God more fully and deeply. The devil condemns us, but God convicts us. Condemnation brings doubt, fear, unbelief and hopelessness, but our God convicts us in order to restore us to righteousness and faith. He always corrects us to build us up, and He provides a way of escape (1 Cor. 10:13).
