It became clear to me a few years ago that there are four generations living among us: the generations of Abraham, Isaac, Jacob, and Joseph (Matt. 1:2). A generation is 20-40 years, depending on which historian you ask.
- Abraham generation – those 70 and above are a generation of faith and maturity
- Isaac generation – those in their 50s & 60s are often the most fruitful and fulfilled generation
- Jacob generation – those in their 30s and 40s are a generation of growing and building
- Joseph generation – Those under 30 are the preparation generation. Joseph prepared for his role as second in command of all of Egypt from ages 17-30.
God calls us to honor and encourage other generations, while we embrace our own generation. Do not compare your generation to another generation…we all have a role to play! Comparing is stupid. Let’s find ways to collaborate with every generation. David fulfilled the purpose of God in his generation and fell asleep. (Acts 13:36). We can do the same! Let’s honor all four generations! Ask other generations how you can pray for them and serve them. Remember, each generation has their own set of insecurities and inferiorities. God is giving you grace for your generation!
