For many years and many weekends, I found myself traveling to one of the U.S. states or to another country to teach from the Bible. For a long time, I was under the impression that the way I learned to recognize God’s voice (based on my background, tradition, and culture) was the same way that everyone else hears Him speak. Then one day it dawned on me that people in different cultures, both here and abroad, have learned to hear the voice of God in so many different ways. I had been very narrow in how I felt the Lord could speak to me.

Since that day, I have been on a personal journey to identify and compile the many ways that God speaks to His people. I have found there are dozens of ways the Lord speaks to us. Not surprisingly, I came to realize that I had been somewhat narrow-minded in how I thought the Lord could speak to me. I had missed hearing His voice so many times. He had been speaking to me over and over again, and I didn’t even realize it! It was similar to young Samuel in the Bible, who heard someone speaking but didn’t recognize that it was the voice of God.

The scriptures tell us, “…The word of the Lord had not yet been revealed to him.” (1 Sam. 3:7). Join me on a journey as we learn together how to hear the voice of the Lord more clearly. He is speaking, we only need to learn to listen and stay open to the many ways he speaks. More to come on this subject.
