Open doors and closed doors

Sometimes the Lord speaks to us by opening and closing doors. I was in Nairobi, Kenya, several years ago when terrorists bombed the U.S. Embassy, killing nearly 1,000 people. That morning, the wife of the pastor who was sponsoring the leadership training at which I was teaching, planned to go to the embassy to help process a visa for a friend. Through a set of circumstances at the last minute, it did not work out for her to go. God closed the door. Had she gone, she might have been in the U.S. Embassy when the bomb exploded. The Lord used a “closed door” to protect one of His children. The Bible tells us that God can open a door or close it at will: “These are the words of the Holy One, the True One, He Who has the key of David, who opens and no one shall shut, Who shuts and no one shall open” (Rev. 3:7, AMP). Let’s expect the Lord to open and close doors before us as we walk this journey of life in fellowship and relationship with Him.
