Down through the ages, man has asked the question, “How can God be good and allow us to suffer?” We face struggles in life for a variety of reasons—sometimes it is a consequence of our own actions, or because we live in a sinful world, or demonic affliction. Being faithful to God does not guarantee we will be free from trouble or pain in this life. Job, Joseph, David, Jeremiah— the list goes on—all suffered for a variety of reasons. Paul experienced many trials: he was put in chains, and experienced storms and shipwreck. Yet he still proclaimed that no tragedy could “separate us from the love of God” (Romans 8:35-39).
Our suffering actually opens us up to Christ’s abundant grace. “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness” (2 Corinthians 12:9). In our weakness or suffering, we can count on His strength to make us strong. In our times of tears, troubles, and weakness, we can be strong because we have exchanged His strength for our weakness. Our strength comes from His strength, and His alone.

We must remember, our circumstance does not dictate our relationship with God. As you stated the scripture, God will never leave us, NOR, forsake us. I like the ditty I read that said,”if God seems far away, guess who moved” God is a loving God. My reaction to adversity is, Lord, what are You trying to show me? I really don’t like multiple trips around the mountain for the same reason. It’s taken a long time to get to that point in life!
