True humility is an attitude of the heart that is constantly acknowledging this truth: without Jesus we can do nothing, but with Christ we can do all things (Phil. 4:13). It is being conscious of our weaknesses and being willing to give God all the credit for things we have achieved and accomplished.
Sometimes people confuse humility with timidity. Humility is not an attitude of self-deprecation or being afraid to attempt things. We can maintain our sense of satisfaction in our achievements without being arrogant. However, we must always remember, it is Jesus who gives us the grace to achieve everything. We are completely dependent on Him!

Hi there Larry, when I read this post today the first thing that came to mind was a quote from the great and legendary Desmond Tutu.
“I certainly know that I would not be able to survive if it were not for the fact that I am being upheld by the prayers of so many people.”, wise words from a very wise man like yourself. If a man this great can show humilty, surley we all can?
Love your posts, keep it up
With love, George
Thanks to learn that all of our efforts are achieved by the grace of God.
this blog entry reminds me of the fig tree. everyone gets a second chance no matter who they are. I once found myself like that fig tree, needing a second chance. when it comes to faith you cant doss about you need to be fully committed, you cant be a problem sorta guy who always causes trouble, as if you are then it is impossible for you to show true humility.
Great post Larry

Indeed Cuan, well said. The passage that you refer to is one of my favourites from Jesus’ teachings, its my favourite parable anyway. The servant was right to give the tree another chance and throw manure around it, figs will grow on it someday and the master will be pleased. The tree is also showing humility by not bearing fruit, it does not wish to show off or be viewed as more important than the other trees in the Vineyard
Glad to see that others are taking interest in this blog, it truly is a great source of knowledge and understanding of different teachings. I’m sorry to hear that you once felt like the fig tree, but sadly that’s something that everybody must endure. I hope that Larry’s blog can help you through further issues, as it has for me.
Yours truly, George
Humility…what a great quality to have in todays world. Everyone is so focussed on their own lives and people constantly compare themselves to others. I can see clearly now that without Christ we are nothing. We must be humble. This is good reading Mr. Kreider, thank you for posting
