God Met Us

In the same way a couple confesses their commitment to each other on their wedding day to begin their marriage relationship, we confess Jesus Christ as our Lord to begin our relationship with God. A young friend of mine was struggling with knowing if he was a true Christian. I took his Bible and showed him Romans 10:9: If you confess with your mouth, “Jesus is Lord,” and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved.

He read this scripture out loud over and over again, and suddenly something changed inside of him. Faith rose up in his heart. He announced excitedly, “Now I know I am really a Christian!” Why? Because he was no longer basing his belief on his feelings, but on what God said in His Word. He confessed with his mouth that Jesus is Lord and experienced true salvation.

What does it mean to know Jesus Christ as Lord? Lord means: ruler, king, boss, one in complete control of our lives. Yet it is more than that. Confessing Him as Lord is also a confession of Christ’s deity. When we confess Jesus as the Lord of our lives, we are not only confessing that He is in total control of our lives, but that He is God.

Sometime in the future, every person who has ever lived on planet earth will acknowledge His Lordship: That at the name of Jesus every knee should bow…and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father. (Phil. 2:10-11). Today, we have the privilege of confessing Jesus as Lord because we want to, but some day, everyone will confess Him as Lord because they have to.

On a personal note, we just returned last night from our 19th DOVE International Leadership Conference at Sandy Cove in Maryland. God met us and we are honored to know him and make Him known.
