Jesus told us in Matthew 28:19 to “Go and make disciples.” When each of us get serious about making disciples as Jesus commanded, one person at a time, and training them so they make more disciples, God’s Kingdom will grow exponentially. Yet many times we have failed to obey this Great Commission from our Lord Jesus. God has called us and given us His priority of making disciples.
This scriptural principle is so simple. It is not rocket science. God uses the principle of multiplication through disciple-making as we become a spiritual father or mother to another person. No matter what you do as an occupation—whether you are a housewife, a student, a worker in a factory, a pastor of a church, or the head a large corporation—you have the divine blessing and responsibility to have spiritual children. You are called to impart to others the rich inheritance that God has given to you.
God wants to establish His kingdom in our generation through spiritual parenting and making disciples, one person at a time. God’s kingdom is built as we love people and spend time with them. Jesus called his disciples “that they might be with him” (Mark 3:14). He has called us to do the same. Those we pour our lives into become our spiritual inheritance. Our legacy will be our spiritual children that we can some day present to Jesus Christ. “For what is our hope, our joy, or the crown in which we will glory in the presence of our Lord Jesus when he comes? Is it not you? Indeed, you are our glory and joy” (1 Thessalonians 2:19-20).
The promise of spiritual children is for every Christian! God has placed us here on earth to become spiritual fathers and mothers in our generation. With this comes the expectation that our spiritual children will also have spiritual children themselves as they pour their lives into the next generation…our eternal legacy that will bring glory to God.
