About an hour ago, I felt the table move in front of me. We were experiencing the tremors of an earthquake. When I checked the news, I realized our nation’s Capitol, the Pentagon and downtown Washington D.C. were being evacuated. Amazing what an earthquake can do. Everything instantly changed. Within moments I received an email from New Zealand asking if everyone was okay. The news of the earthquake went almost instantly around the world.
It reminded me of three earthquakes in the New Testament that changed the world:
(1) When Jesus arose from the dead there was a great earthquake! (Matt. 28:2)
(2) When the early church prayed together in unity, desperation, and faith, the Bible tells us: “After this prayer, the meeting place shook, and they were all filled with the Holy Spirit. Then they preached the word of God with boldness.” (Acts 4:31)
(3) And in Acts 16, Paul and Silas were praying and singing hymns in prison at midnight (when they could have been complaining) when suddenly, there was a massive earthquake, and the prison was shaken to its foundations. The jailer called for lights and ran to the dungeon and fell down trembling before Paul and Silas. “Sirs, what must I do to be saved?” They replied, “Believe in the Lord Jesus and you will be saved, along with everyone in your household.” Then he and everyone in his household were immediately baptized. (Acts 16:25-33)
In each case, the earthquake was accompanied by a new move of God on planet earth. May this earthquake also be accompanied by a fresh move of God that will transform a multitude of lives around the world! Let’s refuse to complain, but trust our God completely and pray; LORD, IN JESUS NAME, WE ARE DESPERATE FOR A FRESH MOVE OF GOD. WE ASK YOU IN FAITH AND IN HUMILITY, HEAR OUR PRAYERS, AND DO IT AGAIN!
